Lincoln
Center, New York
Robert
Adam Architects was asked to design a scheme to replace
the renowned cultural and performance centre. The scheme
was part of a campaign by leading American publication,
City Journal, to promote the demolition of the existing
Lincoln Centre buildings to allow for a completely re-built
civic facility in monumental form.
Robert
Adam's classically based design facilitates the expansion
of the Lincoln Square to create a significant new urban
space with ample room for new buildings. The design proposes
a massive Doric portico leading into the enclosed square
which would be the site of a new civic landmark, an Opera
House Tower.
A
Corinthian loggia lines the south side of the square and
the Opera House building supports roof top gardens and a
restaurant.
