The
Queen lays foundation stone at The British School at Rome
H.M.The
Queen recently laid a foundation stone at The British School
at Rome to commemorate the start of work on site of the
projects to create a library extension and new lecture theatre
for this important building by Lutyens (see projects abroad).
Hugh Petter, who prepared the concept design and classical
details for each scheme, was present at the ceremony, together
with Robert Adam who until recently was the Chairman of
Council for the School. The contract of approximately £2
million is due to be complete by the end of 2001, the BSR's
centenary year. Robert Adam Architects are working with
Garofalo Muira Architetti, the School's architects, and
the project manager is Jane Thompson.
