Nettlecombe is a Queen Anne style family house, designed by Nigel Anderson constructed in 2003 on an existing farmyard complex. The land was previously occupied by a large area of concrete hard standing and redundant farm buildings and cottages that were a blot on the landscape. The new house consists of a central two-storey section below a steeply pitched natural slate roof, with single storey pavilions to each side. Walls are lime rendered with small paned timber sliding sash windows. A new, wooden stable range also created a new service yard for the property. Whilst constructing the house, three traditional brick and flint barns on the site were restored, improving the character and quality of the site.
Nettlecome was featured in the Sunday Telegraph in an article that outlined its development from conception to construction. The article described Nettlecombe as ‘ravishing’ and highlighted the comments of West Dorset Council, that this was ‘a very beautiful house’ that ‘deserved to built.’
