This project is for a terrace of four luxurious houses in one of the most desirable residential areas in London. The area as a whole is characterised by high-quality detached and semidetached villas set back from the street behind gardens, brick walls and porticoed entrances gateways. However, the site of Nos. 51-53 was previously occupied by a group of untidy, early 20th century buildings, subdivided into 16 flats. Additionally, a jumble of single storey garages were located to the rear, with the front communal area dominated by a large area of asphalt hardstanding for parking.

In contrast, the new houses are designed as a literate but original reflection of the historic houses in the street. The properties are composed as a unified terrace onto the street, which reinstates the original mass, scale and detail of the existing villas, and reflects the materials and composition of the surrounding buildings. Central to the development is a white stucco villa, containing two houses family houses, each with its own porticoed gateway. The importance of this central composition is emphasised by a 3-storey central rusticated surround and pediment, and architectural detail is carefully structured to emphasise the internal status of each rooms. Two smaller brick wings are set back to either side of the central villa, each containing a 5 bedroomed house.

The lower ground floor of each dwelling contains an individual garage towards the street, and a conservatory facing towards the garden. New landscaped front gardens behind low walls and railings will reinstate the streetscape, and undoubtedly enhance the appearance of the surrounding conservation area. Permission for the houses was won in a landmark appeal decision where the government inspector described the design, as “a building of outstanding quality…which would, at the very least, be the equal of the nearby listed buildings.”
