CRUX EASTON HOUSE
Hampshire

Crux Easton House sits on a prominent site with stunning views across Hampshire and Wiltshire. Evidence shows that there has been a house of significance on this site since antiquity.

The house has at its core an important mid-eighteenth century villa, designed to the strict geometric principles fashionable during this period. Nineteenth century additions, since partially demolished, obscured the villa’s original form and a series of internal alterations had destroyed the geometry of the interior, although some significant eighteenth century rooms survived.

Robert Adam Architects’ have restored the villa’s original garden elevations, obscured for nearly 200 years. The ad-hoc additions were removed and the interior spaces restored while the geometry and hierarchy of rooms were reinstated around a new central staircase.

In addition to its restoration, the house is extended to the rear, where historical evidence suggests further work was originally planned on the same geometric principles. The refurbishment and extension of Crux Easton House re-establishes a significant building to a site and landscape that has been occupied for several centuries.
