Robert Adam Architects was commissioned by the Duchy of Cornwall to develop a 14 acre site at Thicketmead on the edge of Midsomer Norton in Avon. The proposed settlement will have 110 houses, together with a central public building. The houses will be grouped around two open spaces, in the form of traditional village greens.
At Thicketmead, terraces of houses predominate. Detached or semi-detached houses will be fewer in number, resulting in an overall density of 10 houses to the acre.
The individual properties have been carefully detailed and constructed to a high standard using materials to harmonise with the local vernacular. The completed development will be an aesthetic model for the design of new rural estates, whilst maintaining the essential ingredients of cost effective building and commercial viability.
