ARTS & CRAFTS HOUSE

Robert Adam Architects were commissioned to design a replacement house for an existing farm complex on area of rolling down land outside Stockbridge. The site previously contained several large, run down agricultural buildings which were out of character with the surrounding area. The proposal involved the removal of these structures and the construction of a new dwelling at the heart of the site.

The replacement structure is a four bedroomed dwelling in the Arts and Crafts tradition which retains and incorporates an existing barn into the fabric of the house. The new farmhouse is of a traditional design, respecting the buildings traditions of the local area, and features timber casement windows, dormers, clay tiles and brick and flint panels. All the details and fixtures were specially designed for the house. Materials are all of a high quality and are also locally sourced.

The new development is of a lesser scale and height than the original complex, reducing the impact of built structures upon the surrounding countryside. In conjunction with detailed landscape and management proposals, the new scheme has regenerated the site and enhances its countryside setting.
